Material Engine for Houdini
Material Engine for Houdini is a plugin that allows users to work with Arnold/Redshift materials inside Houdini. It is compatible with Houdini 19 and above and requires Python 3.
Requirements:
1- Current version supports Arnold and redshift rendering engines.
2- Color Space used is ACES OCIO so each texture will be automatically mapped to the correct color space.
3- Houdini 19 and up + python 3.
4- Windows.
The potential uses for the plugin include:
- converting the materials imported within an FBX asset to Arnold/Redshift materials, and maintaining the connection to the assigned model, it can generate shaders for any fbx file that has materials included. Material engine has been tested on 3D assests from Kitbash3d, BigMediumSmall, Maxtree assets.
- converting SpeedTree materials to Arnold/Redshift materials and maintaining the connection to the corresponding model parts.
- Intelligent materials creation (shade/double shade buttons) is useful when the imported FBX materials lack input textures. To ensure proper functionality, the naming convention of the textures should match that of the materials.
- Custom materials creation: This section allows users to manually import textures and create custom Arnold/Redshift materials. The plugin can automatically detect UDIM textures and is compatible with Mari UDIM naming conventions.
